Our Approach

Research and planning process

Research & Planning

Before developing any tour, our team conducts extensive research on the ecosystem, wildlife patterns, and cultural significance of each location. We collaborate with conservation authorities and indigenous communities to ensure our presence respects and supports local ecosystems and traditions. This meticulous planning phase typically takes 3-6 months to complete.

Sustainable tourism practices

Sustainable Practices

Every tour operates under strict sustainability guidelines. We maintain small group sizes, adhere to designated trails, and practice leave-no-trace principles. Our vehicles are low-emission, and we offset our carbon footprint through local reforestation initiatives. We're proud to have achieved certification from EcoTourism Australia and consistently work to exceed industry standards.

Environmental education session

Education & Awareness

Education forms the cornerstone of our tours. Beyond identifying species, our guides explain ecological relationships, conservation challenges, and success stories. Participants gain insights into indigenous land management practices and contemporary conservation efforts. Many guests describe our educational approach as transformative, inspiring them to become environmental advocates in their own communities.

Conservation Impact

Quokka Habitat Restoration Project

Since 2018, Bushland Trails has partnered with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions on a habitat restoration project for quokkas, the iconic small marsupials native to Western Australia. A portion of all tour proceeds directly funds the restoration of degraded habitat areas and the establishment of wildlife corridors between fragmented populations.

Our guides and guests have contributed over 5,000 volunteer hours to this project, planting native vegetation and removing invasive species. Monitoring data shows a 27% increase in quokka sightings within restored areas, indicating the positive impact of these conservation efforts. This project demonstrates how responsible tourism can directly contribute to biodiversity conservation.

School education program

Environmental Education Program

Our "Nature Guardians" program brings environmental education to local schools, reaching over 2,000 students annually. This initiative introduces young people to the importance of biodiversity conservation through interactive workshops, field trips, and citizen science projects. Many participating schools have established their own native gardens and wildlife monitoring programs as a result.

Follow-up surveys indicate that 85% of participating students report increased interest in environmental careers and conservation activities. By nurturing the next generation of environmental stewards, we're ensuring that Western Australia's natural heritage will be protected for decades to come. The program has become a model for tourism companies seeking to make positive contributions to their communities.
