Our Story

Bushland Trails Co. was born in 2018 from a chance meeting between Emma Thompson, a conservation biologist, and James Cooper, a passionate botanist. Both had spent years independently studying Western Australia's unique ecosystems and felt a growing frustration that the region's natural wonders remained largely unknown to visitors and locals alike.

Their first guided walk – a small group of friends through a patch of bushland outside Perth – quickly evolved into a business when participants began requesting additional tours and recommending the experience to others. Within months, Emma and James had secured partnerships with local conservation authorities and developed a series of carefully planned routes through protected reserves.

A pivotal moment came in 2019 when they collaborated with Uncle Ben Walley, a respected Noongar elder, to incorporate indigenous cultural perspectives into their tours. This partnership transformed Bushland Trails from a typical nature tour company into a truly holistic educational experience that honors both scientific understanding and the world's oldest continuous culture.

Today, our team has grown to include fifteen dedicated guides, each bringing specialized knowledge in fields ranging from ornithology to geology. We've expanded our offerings while maintaining our commitment to small group sizes and minimal environmental impact. From humble beginnings, Bushland Trails Co. has emerged as Western Australia's premier eco-tourism provider, recognized for excellence in both education and conservation.
